XMenu - Custom menus for the menu bar
Review by on
XMenu places additional menus on the menu bar, which can make your daily tasks significantly easier. The application places a few customization options at your disposal and it lets you choose what contents should appear in the menus. Your documents, snippets, applications and other contents will be much easier to access while this free and lightweight application is running on your Mac.

Once you run the software, it will immediately place a new menu on your menu bar. By default, it will place a single menu, with everything in your Applications folder, but you can add new menus yourself. All you have to do is open XMenu's Preferences panel and click the check boxes next to the menus you want to place. You can choose to add a documents menu, snippets, developer and home menus, as well as a custom menu, in which you can sort any miscellaneous data.

The aforementioned menus are shortcuts folders on your hard drive. Any contained sub-folders will obviously show up as sub-menus. The application will show any type of contents in its menus, regardless if they are documents, images, video or audio files. If you place new files or folders in the target folders, in Finder, they will automatically appear in the application's menus, without the need for any further user intervention.

Besides choosing what menus to display, you can also customize their names, enlarge their icons, make them unique or generic and sort their contents. Another useful option allows you to place the menus before or after of the extras you may already have on your menu bar. All adjustments can be made on a small panel, just by clicking a few check boxes or radio buttons.

With XMenu on your Mac, you will be able to access your commonly used files and applications on the fly, without opening a single Finder window.

You can access documents, applications and other contents faster. The application lets you chose what menus to display. It also lets you make a few tweaks to the menus.

You can't associate menus with folders of your choice.
